William Kristol has already declared that Obama will be a war president, even though Obama has yet to be swearing as US President. The most important member of the Neo-con group has not been satisfied with blood bath and carnage in Bush era. He is once again goading the new president to ‘finish’ the unfinished business. Apparently he believes in perpetual war for ‘perpetual peace- — the peace of the graves. Fortunately, Obama is made of different timber. One hopes he had learned from the plight of Bush, so unabashedly manipulated by Neo-cons, that he will keep these warmongers at double arms lengths. Iraq may be a success for the US, but what about hundreds and thousands civilian dead. As on Israel following its Gaza genocidal invasion, the pressure world over is mounting that all such warmongers should be brought to justice over their war crimes and violations of human rights of millions of world citizens.

The Next War President

Published: January 18, 2009

In synagogue on Saturday, before saying the customary prayer for our country, the rabbi asked us to reflect on the fact that a new president would be inaugurated on Tuesday, and urged us to focus a little more intently than usual on the prayer. The congregants did so, it seemed to me, as we read, “Our God and God of our ancestors: We ask your blessings for our country — for its government, for its leaders and advisers, and for all who exercise just and rightful authority …”

Barack Obama will assume that just and rightful authority at noon on Tuesday. After a dinner with him that I attended last week, as we said our goodbyes, I overheard one of my fellow conservatives say softly to the president-elect, “Sir, I’ll be praying for you.” Obama seemed to pause as they shook hands, and to thank him more earnestly than he did those of us who simply — and sincerely — wished him well.

The incoming president is the man of the moment. He deserves good wishes and sincere prayers. But I’ve found myself thinking these last few days more about the man who has shouldered the burdens of office for the past eight years, George W. Bush.

He wasn’t my favorite among Republicans in 2000. He has made mistakes as president, and has limitations as a leader. But he has exercised his just and rightful authority in a way — I believe — that deserves recognition and respect.

It will probably be a while before he gets much of either. In synagogue, right after the prayer for our country, there is a prayer for the state of Israel, asking the “rock and redeemer of the people Israel” to “spread over it the shelter of your peace.” As we recited this on Saturday, I couldn’t help but reflect that a distressingly small number of my fellow Jews seem to have given much thought at all to the fact that President Bush is one of the greatest friends the state of Israel — and, yes, the Jewish people — have had in quite a while. Bush stood with Israel when he had no political incentive to do so and received no political benefit from doing so. He was criticized by much of the world. He did it because he thought it the right thing to do.

He has been denounced for this, as Israel has been denounced for doing what it judged necessary to defend itself. The liberal sage Bill Moyers has been a harsh critic of Bush. On Jan. 9, on PBS, he also lambasted Israel for what he called its “state terrorism,” its “waging war on an entire population” in Gaza. He traced this Israeli policy back to the Bible, where “God-soaked violence became genetically coded,” apparently in both Arabs and Jews. I wouldn’t presume to say what is and isn’t “genetically coded” in Moyers’s respectable Protestant genes. But I’m glad it was George W. Bush calling the shots over the last eight years, not someone well-thought of by Moyers.

Many of Bush’s defenders have praised him for keeping the country safe since Sept. 11, 2001. He deserves that praise, and I’m perfectly happy to defend most of his surveillance, interrogation and counterterrorism policies against his critics.

But I don’t think keeping us safe has been Bush’s most impressive achievement. That was winning the war in Iraq, and in particular, his refusal to accept defeat when so many counseled him to do so in late 2006. His ordering the surge of troops to Iraq in January 2007 was an act of personal courage and of presidential leadership. The results have benefited both Iraq and the United States. And the outcome in Iraq is a remarkable gift to the incoming president, who now only has to sustain success, rather than trying to deal with the consequences in the region and around the world of a humiliating withdrawal and a devastating defeat.

The cost of the war in Iraq, and in Afghanistan, has been great. Last Wednesday afternoon, in the midst of all the other activities of the final week of an administration, Bush had 40 or so families of fallen soldiers to the White House. The staff had set aside up to two hours. Bush, a man who normally keeps to schedule, spent over four hours meeting in small groups with the family members of those who had fallen in battle.

This past weekend Barack Obama added to his itinerary a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. Obama knows that he, too, will be a war president. He knows the decisions he makes as commander in chief will be his most consequential. And so on Sunday morning, before going to church, he placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns and stood silently as taps was sounded. The somber tableau provided quite a contrast to all the hubbub and talk of the last few days. Obama’s silent tribute captured a deeper truth, and — I dare say — a more fundamental hope, than could any speech.

One of the big imponderable enigmas hovering over Obama’s campaign and his chances of becoming the 44th President of the United State of America was how the Israel Lobby and the neo-cons will let it happen. Obama was able to circumvent two of their most potent instruments of coercion on the Presidential Hopeful: massive funding potential and the united Jewish vote. Obama had very successfully neutralized both, one by collecting small donations from millions through email canvassing and second by dividing the Jewish vote on partisan and economic lines. However, both the Israeli Lobby and the Neo-cons are part and parcel of US nation and at the first opportunity, they will try to infiltrate his administration, to subvert and deflect his inconvenient strains of initiatives that will adversely affect the old neo-con agenda. With placements of people like Dennis Ross in any influential position to influence Obama’s foreign policies which are bound to differ from that of Bush and Neocon, if America has to see the change that he had so emphatically promised to the nation, the ‘evil empire’ is fighting back. One of the latest moves is to taint Arab money and finance as anti-American. The whole world is aware that the massive Sovereign Funds of oil rich Gulf countries are all locked up with the West and there has never been any reference to Islamic Banking conditionalities over any such investments. However, now that the last Bretton Woods has miserably failed due to the greed of the same Neo-con finance manipulators, any new world reorganization will have to find better solutions to the next big crisis and if even a cursory reference is made to even study the relevance of Islamic Banking and Finance to the new World Financial Order, the gnomes have started ganging up on Obama. Obama will have uphill task to put them in place at the very start of his administration. Any pandering to the interests that are responsible to the destruction of America as a economic superpower, will bound to go a long way in reforming the whole mess left by the rogue Bush administration.

The world has tried both the Marxist and the capitalist economic alternatives. In fact, devoid of the human and humane element that Islamic Finance is all about, the old order had played havoc with the lives of billions of people on the surface of the globe. The time has come to give the third alternative a chance to bring in an ethical and moral dimension to how the next financial order should play out. Islamic experts are bound to be represented on the table when the Bretton Woods II is next called in. The world should be prepared for the despoiling role of neo-cons, whose future is all tied up as to how world is messed up and destroyed so that they can pick up the pieces.

Expert Warns Obama To Avoid Islamic Finance

Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy warns that the president-elect should avoid financing his great society with tainted Islamic-correct petro dollars, saying their strings might be attached inextricably to the nation’s worst extremist enemies.

With Barack Obama’s victory Tuesday sucking the oxygen from the air, few are focusing on Thursday, the day the U.S. Treasury Department will embrace the so-called “Shariah-Compliant Finance” or SCF.

If “Shariah” doesn’t ring any bells other than sounding foreign and somewhat ominous, it is simply the “religio-political-legal code authoritative Islam seeks to impose worldwide under a global theocracy,” Gaffney said.

The Treasury Department will host a “seminar for the policy community” entitled “Islamic Finance 101,” and it’s all about getting warm and fuzzy with SCF. Co-sponsoring the event is the Islamic Finance Project at Harvard Law School.

Harvard has benefitted mightily from the infusion of millions of dollars from a Wahhabi Saudi prince and his government, Gaffney said.

Yes, it’s all about money.

U.S. financial institutions, reeling from the credit crunch, are hungrily eyeballing more than $1 trillion in petrodollars, including Shariah-compliant bonds, mutual funds, mortgages, insurance, hedge funds, and real estate investment trusts.

Dow Jones Corp. has even created its own index for Islamic-correct investments: the Dow Jones Islamic Index, according to The Coalition to Stop Shariah.

Enter Uncle Sam, the always cash-strapped giant that must feed at any convenient trough these days, regardless of what strings are attached.

And what a trough it is. The global Shariah market is growing at a 15 percent pace, courtesy of the oil boom and resurgence in Islamic fundamentalism, according to the Center for Security Policy. It’s expected to more than double during the next 10 years.

Attractive chunk of available change and maybe even an imperative, but some watchdogs are ringing alarm bells.

Investors Business Daily recently examined Shariah-compliant finance and its involvement with investments and other transactions that have been structured to conform to the orthodox teachings of Islamic law.

“That means they can’t charge or earn interest, the cornerstone of our credit-driven economy,” the business publication advised. “Nor can they take any stake in ‘haram,’ or forbidden, industries, including meat and beverage producers (if they process any pork or alcohol); entertainment; gaming; and interest-based financing.

“Wall Street is jumping into this hot new market oblivious to the risks not just to the bottom line, but to national security. It knows little about Shariah law and is turning to consultants to create ‘ethical’ products to sell.

“Lost in the hype over these Muslim-friendly funds is that they must ‘purify’ their returns by transferring at least 3 percent into Islamic charities, many of which funnel funds to terrorists.”

Bottom line: Shariah law obligates that a sizable portion of “zakat,” or giving — one of the pillars of Islam — go to support jihad. So many of the purification donations generated from Shariah finance could wind up in the hands of our enemy.

Gaffney sees the latest Federal interest in SCF products as leading to dangerous ends.

“Such submission — the literal meaning of ‘Islam’ — is not likely to remain confined long to the Treasury or its sister agencies,” he said. “Thanks to the extraordinary authority conferred on Treasury since September, backed by the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief, the department is now in a position to impose its embrace of Shariah on the U.S. financial sector.

“The nationalization of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Treasury’s purchase of — at last count — 17 banks and the ability to provide, or withhold, funds from its new slush fund can translate into unprecedented coercive power,” the expert said.

Gaffney has called upon the new president to nix the outgoing administration’s determination to advance the Islamist agenda via such projects as “Islamic Finance 101,” and what flows from them.

He calls the embrace of SCF “the first far-reaching policy decision inherited by the new president-elect.”

Gaffney’s advice: “Pull the plug on Thursday’s indoctrination program and the insidious industry it is meant to foist on the ‘policy community,’ our capital markets, and our country.”

“After all, the object of Shariah is the supplanting of our government and Constitution, through violent means if possible and, until then, through stealthy ones,” he said.

Where have all the Neo-cons gone? By Ghulam Muhammed

Where have all the Neo-cons gone?

If Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s theory is to be believed, they have all landed in Georgia, in a last ditch attempt to force another war on the US, so another warmonger, John McCain can win the presidency of the US, in the coming November 4 US Presidential election, thus perpetuating the legacy of the discredited US President Bush.

Eight years back, they had delivered a coup by getting their candidate, George W. Bush elected through any number of series of dirty tricks and covert strategies, including the intervention of Supreme Court, when the Democratic nominee, Al Gore lost by few votes, running into hundreds, in the total votes of millions. However, their role in using Bush to invade Iraq, as one of the most dreaded danger to Israel  and their choice of Afghanistan for the next target of their concocted war on terror, had so enraged the people back home, that one by one, they chose to fly off from the discredited Bush regime’s most important cabinet posts. However, one can be sure, though they have gone underground, and have no face to come out as strongly as at the time of George Bush, their public drubbing does not preclude their active behind the scene conspiracy to once again subvert America’s democracy and manage such public issues at the fag end of the campaigning, that their nominee, John McCone, should have smooth sailing, while Barack Obama takes the dirt roads.

One of the most daring plans is to instigate a confrontation with Russia.  With the rise of Putin, who early on sensed the stranglehold of Israeli and other Jewish robber barons tightening around Russian economy and used his popular power base, to throw out the Jewish conspirators from their economic perches, from where they had planned to take out Putin. Not willing to suffer defeat, they have regrouped around the weaker states around the Russia’s underbelly, organised the so-called democratic revolutions, got their proxies to head the governments and have been using these neighbouring countries as a staging ground to take on Putin and his power base.

Israel had been major arm supplier to the small nation of Georgia, whose obliging President had been forced to take the most audacious and most foolish step of using his armed forces to move into South Ossetia and triggered a armed conflict with Russia, thus providing Bush regime an opportunity of saber rattling in the Europe and impressing on Americans to vote John McCain, as safety and security of the US and Europe is at stake and he as a ‘war hero’, the better candidate to wage wars.

So the neo-cons are gone into hiding, but are still operative behind the scene to stage a second coup, by derailing a popular candidate and pick up the war machine that the US has been to carry out their warped Zionist New World Order agenda. This time around, they have got key people at the helm of affairs in NATO countries, like the Hungary-born French President Nicholas Sarkozy and foreign minister Bernard Kouchner, both Jewish as well as another Jewish Foreign Secretary David Miliband in UK, who are in the forefront of war and peace in Europe and are naturally fully available to the neo-cons to do their bidding in the larger interest of Israeli and Jewish interest around the world.

In two interviews with BBC and CNN, Russian Prime Minister Putin has directly accusing US of instigating Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to move forces into South Ossetia, against all mutual understandings between the two neighbouring countries, so that a Republican President is re-elected in the next election, perpetrating Bush policies on Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran.

The world cannot just wait and see that a new cold war is about to be provoked for private gains of a vested interest group. India among the non-aligned nations, must take lead in cautioning all concerned not the play with the peace of the world.
