Sir

Mr. Ashok V. Chowgule’s contention in his letter (Religion & Rationale, TOI, 30/9) that secular problems have to be evaluated rationally and not with reference to any religious writings carries weight. Trouble lies in people changing their position to suit their own agenda while deciding when a rational problem becomes religious. Babri Masjid is a problem of ownership of land as per briefs filed with the courts. Will Mr. Chowgule adhere to his own advice and support a position to refrain from bringing in any religious references in the case of Babri Masjid?

Sincerely
